Multi-stage air scrubber on composting mushroom substrate

The Sterckx company in Roeselare, a mushroom-substrate composting plant, needs to capture ammonia and dust from their composting tunnels.  We have built and installed a multi-stage air scrubber with attention to ventilation management, accessibility and safety.  Intensive aftercare is ensured through our electronic monitoring system PASmonitor.

MULTI-STAGE AIR SCRUBBER 80,000 M³ AIR/HOUR

The industrial multi-stage air scrubber was built in our own workshop by our in-house production team.

The unit is 4.95 m wide, 13.60 m long, 3.40 m high and has a capacity of 80,000 m³ of air/hour.  The air purification system features 4 sections, each separated by drop catchers.  These sections are successively: dust collection, chemical air scrubbing, neutralisation and fan chamber.

The technical room, equipped with all necessary measuring equipment, was built inside the unit.  Moreover, this control room is already designed for possible expansion for a 2nd unit providing a total capacity of 160,000 m³ of air/hour.

An air duct on top of the unit increases the emission point and provides secure access to the fan chamber.

All work on site was carried out by our own installation teams and service department.

A CE certificate was delivered.

TUNED VENTILATION

The ventilation management is also provided by CBgroep.  Air from 23 composting tunnels is directed to 1 central air duct.  Our air purification system is connected to this.  The 5 centrifugal fans with EC motors create a continuous negative pressure in the central air duct.  This ensures that all the air from each composting tunnel passes through the air scrubber.

When filling a composting tunnel, a large amount of ammonia vapour is released.  Our air purification system is automatically tuned to this.  When opening the gate, a signal is given to the fan chamber in the air scrubber: the fans will rotate faster and more air will be directed to the air scrubber.  When the gates close, the fans will reduce speed again.

INTENSIVE AFTERCARE THROUGH PASMONITOR

Electronic monitoring is possible via the PASmonitor.  All data, graphs and file management are accessible to the customer, our service department and the screening company Mircon.  This close contact makes follow-up even easier, both administratively and technically.

ACCESSIBILITY AND SAFETY

The unit is accessible through doors on top of the scrubbers.  This makes maintenance easy for all parties.  Safety was also taken into consideration: the unit is equipped with cage ladders and fencing.
