Drain water from biobeds and air scrubbers must be registered correctly by means of a drain water counter, approved by the Manure Bank (VLM).  A mechanical water counter is insufficient for the supervisory authority.

MECHANICAL DRAIN WATER COUNTER FOUND INADEQUATE BY SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY

Since 2004, it has been compulsory to register the amount of drain water produced using a calibrated water pulse metre. 

In the early years, there were few or no metres that could cope with the aggressiveness and dirtiness of drain water.  Therefore, the amount of drain water was recorded by the number of times the water was discharged or by means of a simple mechanical water counter. 

From experience with inspection files, we have noticed that this form of registration is insufficient for the supervisory authority.

Meanwhile, there is an inductive electronic metre on the market that can correctly register the flow rate and that has been approved by the supervisory authority.  This type of water metre has no moving parts or internal filter that could clog.  The cubic metres of drain water are digitally indicated by means of a screen.  In this way, the correct amount of drain water can be read for both the manure bank declaration and for reporting in the fertiliser register.
