Air conditioning
Discover the realisation
A pig farm in Kruisem wanted to expand its activities. The customer also wanted to invest in a future focusing on animal welfare.
The incoming air in the stable is indirectly cooled during warm periods and heated during cold periods. Result: a steadier stable climate, better animal welfare and lower heating costs.
The outgoing air from the stable is cleaned of ammonia through air scrubbing. The combination with heat exchange reduces water consumption during cold periods.
AIR CONDITIONING
The incoming air is optimally conditioned in various ways.
INDIRECT COOLING
Warm incoming air is cooled indirectly. The air itself is not humidified, but passes through fins that are sprayed with cold water.
Result: less heat stress and better animal welfare.
HEAT EXCHANGE
Cold incoming outside air is heated. This is because the cold air is guided through a heat exchanger before it enters the stable. The pre-heating ensures a warmer and drier climate in the house.
Result: a steadier stable climate and therefore better animal welfare
Result: lower heating costs
VIRUS FILTER
A virus filter filters the incoming air before it enters the house.
The ventilators create overpressure in the house, so that there is no ingress through entrance doors.
Result: virus-free incoming air
COMBINATION OF HEAT EXCHANGE AND AIR SCRUBBING
The outgoing stable air is cooled in colder periods by the built-in heat exchanger. As a result, less water will evaporate.
Result: less water used in air scrubbing
A numerical example (number of pigs comparable):
|
Stable with indirect cooling |
Stable without indirect cooling |
December 2021 |
13 m³ |
175 m³ |
May 2022 |
433 m³ |
430 m³ |
Water consumption is significantly less in cold periods, and virtually the same in summer.
AIR SCRUBBING
The air scrubbing part of the unit reduces the ammonia of the outgoing stable air.
Result: less ammonia emission
CONSTRUCTION UNIT
2 floors:
1. Lower floor: virus filters + ventilators
2. Upper floor: air conditioning (cooling + heating) + air scrubbing
CONSTRUCTION OF PROJECT
CBGROEP = PARTNER
Our technical experts have developed the demand for optimisation of air conditioning in combination with air scrubbing into one closed and hygienic unit.
Several sketches and consultation moments later, a final design was drawn up.
We have built the units in our own production workshop. Our own site team installed them on site. The start-up was done by the service technicians.
Afterwards, we can permanently monitor the units via our electronic monitoring system.
COURSE OF PROJECT
Phase 1: Demolition of an existing non-functioning scrubber
Phase 2: Construction and installation of 1 technical room
Phase 3: Start-up and connection to our electronic monitoring system
Phase 4: Construction and installation of 1 new air scrubber unit
Phase 5: Construction and installation of 3 new air scrubber units at 3 new stables
Phase 6: Construction and installation of 2 new air scrubber units at existing stables
The customer has clad the air scrubber, as well as the façade, with wooden slats, which creates a very beautiful aesthetic whole.
RESULT
- 6 new units on existing and new stables: air conditioning and air scrubbing
- 1 technical room with 2 central pumps, incl. Draineater
- 1 bacteria cellar
