Poultry aerator, the air scrubber for broilers

Discover the realisation

On a newly built poultry house (69,000 broilers) in the province of Antwerp, a Poultry aerator was installed to purify all outgoing air of the chicken house from odour, dust and ammonia.  The Poultry aerator was developed in West-Flanders by CBgroep.

The house air is sucked in via the longitudinal fans, which are built into the pressure chamber, connected to the downstream air scrubber.  In order to comply with the increasingly stringent ceiling values on nitrogen emissions, both heat exchangers were also equipped with a downstream air scrubber unit.  In this way, 100% of all house air is purified.

The CBgroep team guides the poultry farmer from A to Z: during the application for a permit, the elaboration of the drawings and the ventilation management, as well as with the actual assembly and start-up.

The installation was built on the basis of the AEA list for poultry:

System S-2.  Chemical air scrubbing system 70% or higher ammonia emission reduction.

The online monitoring system records more than 25 items 24 times a day, including in particular:

  • Acidity, conductivity and temperature of the process water
  • Pressure drop of the scrubbing package
  • Level control of the underground buffer tank
  • 3x frequency controllers
  • 3x phased start-up of air scrubbing system according to ventilation
  • Drain water valve
  • Fresh water and drain water counter
  • 3x Digital flow meters
  • Dosing pump
  • Operating hours
  • Safety sensors such as level of drain water tank and circulation tank

The various values are clearly displayed in a graph.  In this way, the installation can be accessed from every computer or smartphone with internet access.  This user-friendliness makes it possible to provide technical support to the poultry farmer from the offices of CBgroep in Staden.  After the 2-year guarantee period, this way the costs for on-site interventions are reduced to a minimum.  This allows the poultry farmer to continue to concentrate on his main activities.
